Tasuleasa Social Association grants the Green Passport to the inhabitants of Dorna Candrenilor

The Tasuleasa Social Association, alongside with Coca‑Cola HBC Romania is launching the Green Passport educational project, supported by the Ministry of the Environment and Forestry, and by Calimani National Park, involving 160 teenagers from Dorna-Candrenilor.

The 160 volunteers will attend a training program for a four months period in Tasuleasa Social camp, located in Bistrita-Nasaud County, and will perform a practical exercise in June. They will set-up a tourist itinerary having as starting point the center of Dorna Candrenilor and reaching up to “12 Apostles” Reservation. During the training, the teenagers will attend communication classes and they will learn about natural resources in the area and the importance of their preservation and about the selective waste collection.

In May the volunteers of Tasuleasa Social and the Coca‑Cola HBC Romania employees will clean-up a part of Negrisoara river and in parallel they will carry out a local information campaign meant to prevent waste discharge into the environment. The teenagers will go from door to door to inform the locals that Dorna Candrenilor area has to remain clean.

During March 12th – 14th period, the first volunteers attended the training sessions in Tasuleasa Social camp. Several employees from Calimani National Park had also participated to these sessions and talked to the teenagers about the protected area and responsible tourism.

Education is essential because part of the role of a Non Government Organisation is to change behaviours. The communities already learnt that we, as NGOs, along with the volunteers, come and clean; but people do not understand the difference between as association and a cleaning company. Therefore we no longer want to just collect PET bottles and waste, but to help people to become aware. Because when you throw your garbage in the back yard, this is no longer an environmental problem, but a cultural one.

Alin Uhlmann Useriu President of Tasuleasa Social

Members of Tasuleasa Social prepare the local volunteers to manage in the same time a Tourist Information Center that will be built in Dorna Candrenilor in June, after the training period is over. This will offer visitors historical and tourist information about Calimani Mountains, while the local guides will be actually the volunteers that attended the classes.

Since first acquiring Dorna mineral water brand, the Coca‑Cola System in Romania has been involved in social responsibility projects in Suceava County. This has attracted funds in the region of up to three million Euros and resulted in training sessions with the local authorities and local teenagers in ecology, tree planting and school renovations. The Green Passport is a natural continuation of these projects carried out in cooperation with Tasuleasa Social, our strategic partner in the area.

Coca‑Cola is one of the first multinational companies to have invested in Romania. Even in 1991, the year of its entry on the market, The Coca‑Cola System in Romania (Coca‑Cola Romania and Coca‑Cola HBC Romania) applied the principles of social partnership meant to support and promote the development of an educated society and of a healthy environment.

Since 2003, The Coca‑Cola Hellenic Group, of which Coca‑Cola HBC Romania is a part , has included in its business strategies the concept of sustainable development. The main elements include: employee development, consumer health, preservation of water resources, climate protection and the recovery and recycling of packaging materials.
